Why and how to use Instagram Nametags for your promotion
Instagram Nametags are the same as Facebook messenger codes & Snapcodes (Snapchat) — An easy, often under-used, feature to help people find your Instagram account.
An Instagram handle which people can easily find is a thing of the past, we have all, at least once, struggled to explain the correct spelling of our handle to someone we’re meeting and want to follow us. Nametags help us in just that.
After generating a nametag, you can get it printed on posters, visiting cards, pop-up events, standees, stores, or just keep it in your phone, making it easier for users to quickly scan & view your profile or follow you.
1. Creating your Instagram Nametag
You can create your Nametag either through the website or through the app. There are just three steps to generate it using the application.
Step 1: After logging in to your profile, press the burger icon (three horizontal lines marked in the screenshot) to open the right slider.
Step 2: Find the Nametag button in the slider which just opened up.
Step 3: Your Nametag has two parts — the actual text with the Instagram logo and the background. You cannot modify the text & IG logo but you can change the background by clicking on the centre button. Instagram gives you three options — Color, Emoji and Selfie — you can click on the button to change modes, or click on the background itself to modify the color, stickers or emoji! Have fun while selecting the background which defines your brand language.
Step 4: Once you are satisfied with your selection, click on the share button as shown in the image to export it out of Instagram. Even if you select the X button, your changes are saved for future use.
Here are some ideas to get your started using your Nametag:
- Modify your invoices and bills to have the Nametag printed
- The back of your visiting card
- Put them in your store front with a small standee
- Stick them to your store’s roof!
- The more creative you are with these tags, the more likely people would want to scan them! Instagram only tells you to keep them clean, stick them to flat surfaces and make sure it’s the right size.
2. Scanning Instagram Nametags
Scanning printed nametags is pretty straightforward and can be done in two ways.
Option 1: When you open the Nametag Editor (like we did above in Steps 1/2) you get an option to Scan a Nametag
Option 2: The easier option, open your stories, go to add a new story and point your screen to a Nametag. Once there, you can just press and hold the screen and Instagram will scan it for you and give you an option to either view the profile or follow it.
